I wrote this piece not to counter Prof. @RichardDawkins, but to join the greater conversation he so brilliantly began in his recent post on https://richarddawkins.substack.com. His reverence for the “poetry of reality” inspired me to reflect on the bridge between science and spirituality.
If by any chance this reaches you, Professor Dawkins—I would be deeply honored if you read this response. It comes from a place of respect, curiosity, and shared wonder. 🌌🙏
I picked up 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins years ago before I knew he was an atheist. I just liked the word 'delusion' in it. I haven't yet read the book. Thanks for sharing his essay in your column and also for providing context. I am, however, new-age and spiritual. I love sound baths and mantras, astrology, chants, and tarot. At least now I know who I am. I don't agree with Prof. Dawkins' scathing conclusion in his essay.
Aishwariya, thank you for sharing that so openly—it really touched me. I love that the word “delusion” drew you to the book before you knew the author's stance. That says something beautiful about your curiosity and open spirit.
Like you, I also find deep resonance in sound, symbols, and sacred rituals—not as rigid truths, but as tender ways of connecting with the ineffable. Mantras, chants, astrology … they are poetry for the soul. They remind us that not everything valuable can be measured.
I deeply appreciate that while you do not agree with Prof. Dawkins, you still gave space to his view—and that is what makes spiritual maturity shine: not certainty, but the grace to hold difference without defensiveness.
So glad you are here. Your presence adds warmth and depth to this space. 🌸
